What is 5G NR?

5G NR is a new Radio Access Technology (RAT) and is designed to be the global standard for a unified and more capable 5G wireless air interface. It will enhance mobile broadband experiences by significantly providing faster speed and more capacity for wireless users and will help in extending mobile technology to redefine a range of new industries. With lesser lag time and network loss it is designed to benefit end-user or customers and provide a flawless experience.

5G NR is designed to meet all the requirements defined by IMT-2020 in terms of throughput, latency, and capacity from a wireless network system. E.g.

  •  Upto 20 Gbps data rate using mmWave
  • < 1 ms air interface and < 5 ms E2E Latency
  • More than 10 Mn connected devices per square KM area

All cell phones use radio waves to facilitate communication and Radio Access Technology is the underlying physical connection method for a radio-based communication network. Many modern mobile phones support several RATs in one device such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G NR.

How will 5G NR work?

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) family of waveforms for 5G NR will be used. 5G will not be based on a completely new waveform and multiple access design as these waveforms can be used both for LTE & WiFi. Suitable optimization will be done to deliver high efficiency and low complexity. To enable lower latency and efficient multiplexing of diverse 5G services, a common flexible framework will be enabled.

VVDN’s Role in 5G New Radio

NR being new 5G radio access technology and reuses many of the structures and features of LTE. However being a new Radio access technology (RAT) means that NR, unlike the LTE evolution, is not restricted by a need to retain backward compatibility.

VVDN currently supports Standalone (SA) solutions, to quote a few examples, we have
