The emergence of 5G, the next generation of the mobile broadband standard has definitely offered a unique opportunity for VVDN Technologies as it enables our core strengths of software and hardware expertise in the domain. Our highly productive and low-cost hardware accelerator cards named IRYA, ADYA & SAHA taken from Sanskrit language meaning Powerful, First & Enduring respectively are the gfame changers right now. They are an answer to multiple 5G queries in the market.

But first, it is important to know, what is a Smart NIC and why is it required?

A Network Interface card (NIC) is a PCIe compliant card which bridges high-speed ethernet networks and legacy servers/storage box. Smart Network Interface cards are advanced versions, where servers can offload their network traffic processing to Smart NIC and helps to achieve high performance and efficiency with existing legacy servers and hardware.

It helps in solving the complexity of the server-based networking data plane and increases work efficiency by increasing network interface bandwidths allowing CPU to run more functions.

Why & Where is IRYA Smart NIC needed?

It can be used for standalone 5G Fronthaul solution, OvS Off-load, and SSL Acceleration and at the same time it is low-cost hardware with higher productivity.

The IRYA is a Half Height Half Length (HHHL) PCI Express® Gen3 x16 compliant card built around Xilinx Virtex ultrascale+ XCVU7P/9P FPGA with two banks of DDR4 Memory. It is designed to accelerate compute-intensive networking applications (wired as well as wireless). IRYA has been successfully tested for executing OvS (Open vSwitch) and Cryptography (Network Accelerator) as the reference solutions.

Highlights:

  • Low-profile PCIe Network Processing FPGA Board Featuring 2 X 10/25/40/50/100G
  • Dual QSFP28 cages 40GbE/100GbE network solutions
  • PCIe Gen3 x16
  • Microcontroller for Sequencing

Where does ADYA Telco NIC play its role?

It is a Telco-grade Layer 1 Acceleration card used for 5G Telco DC

The ADYA is a Full Height Half Length (FHHL) card, built around Xilinx Zync Ultrascale+ MPSoC & RFSoC, having two 25G SFP28 and x16 PCIe interface bifurcated to two x8 interfaces. It has been successfully tested for executing Layer 1 (High PHY & Low PHY) and 5G Fronthaul as the reference solutions.

Highlights:

  • Xilinx Zynq Ultrascale+ ZU21DR and Xilinx Zynq Ultrascale+ ZU19EG
  • 2 x QSPI Flash, 256MB in QSPI mode
  • The only solution with NIC and L1 off-load on a single card – enables 1RU servers
  • 10x performance increase over CPU alone (>20x Solution cost reduction)
  • Engineered for Telco Grade Reliability (NEBS)

SAHA Acceleration Card

This is likely to launch soon and is exclusively designed for L1 offloading (encoding & decoding) and will be beneficial in 5G-RAN DU/CU deployment & 5G base stations

It is a single slot Half Height Half Length card (HHHL) SAHA Telco NIC is built around Xilinx Zync Ultrascale + RFSoC. The RFSoC contains hard SD-FEC blocks to offload high CPU intensive tasks like LDPC encode/decode. This acceleration card is interfaced to CPU via PCIe x16.

Earlier, CU/DU Servers were used for high computational bit processing tasks, but now we can offload Hi-PHY L1 bit processing to SAHA card.

Advantages:

  • Traffic can be eased
  • Core can be saved and the performance achieved with:
    • Single LDPC encoder in FPGA, software has to use 4 CPU cores
    • Single LDPC decoder in FPGA, software has to use 10 CPU cores
